India - Service Tax Guidelines for Import Ocean Freight and Allied Charges - Prepaid at Origin.

Please be informed that in view of The Government of India – Ministry of Finance’s Notification No. 1/2017-Service Tax dated 12 January 2017 (view here: 1, 2, 3), prepaid Ocean Freight and allied charges (FREIGHT charges) which were earlier exempted from the Service Tax (STax), will now be taxable.

UK’s first direct train service from china starts

There is now a train that departs from China and travels direct to London. The new service started from January 2017, from Zhengzhou through to Hambury germany, with movement then by road to various European destination.

The service is operated by China railway, who have been operating a service to Madrid and Hamburg, and now have extended the service to most of Europe as of January 2017.

THE Alliance prepares contingency

In the wake of the Hanjin bankruptcy, THE Alliance has devised a “catastrophic instrument” funding mechanism, to be used if one of its member lines were to fail. The proposals would allow fellow alliance lines to “take other actions to facilitate the movement or cargo carried by the affected party to the intended port of discharge or other locations”.

Other clauses give the members the right to deal directly with shipowners of chartered-in ships and/or other carriers providing slot charters to the bankrupt partner.
